BROWNSVILLE, Texas (January 10, 2017) – The City of Brownsville, in collaboration with the Cameron County Homeless Partnership, local nonprofit organizations and businesses, is seeking volunteers for the 2017 Point-In-Time Count, to be held Thursday, January 26, 2017.

The Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a survey of homeless persons on a single night in January. This nationwide endeavor is conducted to identify the homeless individuals in a community and provide resources to assist them to overcome their current situations.

As a recipient of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds for Homeless Assistance Services, the City of Brownsville collaborates with the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program to conduct a Point-In-Time Count every year. Point-In-Time Count results are submitted to the Texas Homeless Network (THN) and information is used for annual HUD grants, as well as for local, regional, and statewide planning purposes.

“The Point-In-Time Count will help our community plan services and programs to address local needs and identify strengths and gaps in our homelessness assistance system,” said Office of Grant Management & Community Development Director Marina Zolezzi. “This year, our goal is to obtain 200 volunteers to help identify homeless individuals in our community and provide goods to assist them.”

Individuals interested in volunteering for the Point-In-Time Count may contact the Office of Grant Management and Community Development (OGM/CD) at (956) 548-6167 or (956) 548-6160.

In addition, the OGM/CD requests any of the following donations for the Point-In-Time Count:
